Notes:
There’s nothing like a Big Sur trip in early fall. It highlights California in all of its beauty and is the perfect start to my favorite season. We loaded my dads Eurovan with boards and high hopes to score a few waves on the journey up. We all expressed an excitement for a great weekend ahead as we left laguna on a warm October afternoon just before the weekend. After picking Austin up in SLO, we stopped off for a sloppy surf session in Cayucos. It’s never a bad day when you’re surfing with your best buds but the waves were messy and we did more swimming than surfing. We piled back into the car and continued up HWY 1 towards Big Sur. Blake and Austin took us to Salmon Creek Trail where we spent the early afternoon playing in the waterfall. No matter the season, a pit stop at Salmon Creek and a dip in the waterfall is a must hit on any Big Sur adventure moving forward.
After cooling off, we jumped back in the car and prepared for an daunting drive to the top of Plaskett Creek. The VW Eurovan was sure to be tested and we geared up for the unknown and potentially risky road conditions ahead. The journey to the top of Plaskett creek was more like and Indiana Jones ride than a car ride but we did it and the reward was beyond worth it. Ask Dade how the drive up/down went one day… We reached the top of Plaskett creek and were able to snag a perfect campsite. As always, it was a weekend well spent with the best of people in the most beautiful of places. See you in October Big Sur.
