05 | Summer Road Trip

Notes:

Since finishing college, I’ve found that a summer doesn’t feel complete without a road trip back up North. While in school, I’d spend each summer in Berkeley training with the football team and taking classes. Some of my favorite memories come from those summer months on campus, where class, training, hydrating with adult beverages and exploring the bay with my best friends was the only concern. There is an energy throughout the Bay during the summer months that I love and truly miss. Josh and I left Laguna a week before the 4th with only a few loose plans. We loaded my truck, assembled the toys, stocked the cooler and signaled our friends that we were coming North. Over the first few days, we moseyed up the coast, stopping in Santa Barbara for beers, San Luis for lunch, Morro for surf and Big Sur for bliss. We ended our first leg with a pit-stop in Aptos to see Eric and Kort. The twins treated us with clean beds, good food, more sharky surf and a sloppy round of golf. Fat and happy, Josh and I continued North just before the weekend to take on a San Fran weekend with friends. We bounced around the Bay in good company, exploring Mt. Tam, strolling through Berkeley, rooting the Giants on and frequenting the Marina in the evenings. Tahoe was next and served as the bulk of our trip. Fly Fishing, lake time, hikes, a few Chambers punches and a mountain bike ride on the Flume Trail was all in order. (The Flume is a must hit adventure.) Tahoe in the summer is pretty damn hard to beat. *Josh and i took the scenic route home, coming down the 395 at sunset and crashing in Mammoth on the final night. We woke to a beautiful morning by the lake and enjoyed our coffee, sharing some of our favorite moments from the journey. At just about 3:00 on July 3rd, we rolled back into Laguna and prepared for the grand finale. A weekend with all the buds to celebrate July 4th. Summer has begun now.
